Adamawa Governor Cancels Own Traditional Title, Withdraws Honors from Atiku, Haruna, Others
Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has nullified traditional titles held by himself, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Governor Boni Haruna, and several others due to the reorganization of emirates and chiefdoms within the state.
Fintiri disclosed this decision during the installation ceremony of the new Chief of Madagali, stressing that all District Heads must now align with the restructured emirates and chiefdoms. He clarified that traditional titles granted under the previous system were no longer recognized.
The reorganization impacts titles previously assigned within the Adamawa and Mubi emirates. Consequently, Fintiri surrenders his title of Sarki Yaki Mubi, Atiku loses his designation as Waziri Adamawa, while Haruna relinquishes the Makama Mubi title, among others affected by the changes.
To facilitate the transition, the governor instructed traditional councils in the newly established emirates to propose alternative titles for approval in line with customary practices.
He further noted that the Lamido of Adamawa could recommend Atiku and others for reconsideration, but any reinstatement would require his final endorsement.
