Abubakar Sadiq Saadu, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for the Zuru/Fakai/Sakaba/Danko-Wasagu Federal Constituency in Kebbi State, has dragged the party and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to court over what he described as a forged affidavit purporting to withdraw his candidature ahead of the 2027 general election.
In a statement issued in Birnin Kebbi on Friday, Saadu insisted that he emerged winner of the ADC primary for the constituency and that his name was duly submitted to INEC as the party’s candidate. He said his attention was drawn to an affidavit allegedly sworn on July 28, 2026, before a Commissioner for Oaths at the High Court of Justice, Maitama, Abuja, with Affidavit Code 6A68730EA37ED, which claimed he had voluntarily withdrawn from the House of Representatives race.
Saadu maintained that he neither appeared before the commissioner nor signed any such document, and that he did not authorise anyone to swear the affidavit on his behalf. He alleged that his passport photograph, which he submitted to the party, was fraudulently used, and that the document carried a computer-generated letterhead, an incorrect address and the wrong name of the party, clear signs, according to him, that the affidavit was not genuine.
In response, the candidate said he had sworn a counter-affidavit at the High Court of Justice, Garki, Abuja, on August 14, 2026. A suit has already been filed and is scheduled for hearing on Monday, August 17.
Saadu called on INEC to disregard the purported withdrawal and verify his status through its official records. He also urged the Nigeria Police Force, EFCC, ICPC and DSS to investigate the alleged forgery and bring those responsible to book. He further appealed to the Chief Judge of the Federal Capital Territory and the Nigerian Bar Association to probe the circumstances surrounding the swearing of the affidavit, insisting that any judicial officer or lawyer found involved should face disciplinary and legal action.
The ADC candidate equally called on the party’s National Working Committee and the Kebbi State chapter to formally notify INEC and security agencies that he remains the authentic candidate and to disown the alleged forged documents. He warned against any plan to conduct another primary election for the constituency on August 18 and 19, describing it as an attempt to undermine his candidature. According to him, the person being positioned as his replacement was not a member of the ADC when INEC’s online membership registration closed and therefore cannot validly take his place.
Saadu reaffirmed his determination to represent the people of Zuru/Fakai/Sakaba/Danko-Wasagu Federal Constituency, insisting that their mandate is not for sale. He vowed to pursue the matter through the courts and ensure that all those involved are held accountable under the law.
