Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has commissioned a series of new and remodelled court facilities in Makurdi, describing the projects as part of efforts to strengthen the state’s justice system and improve conditions for judicial and law officers.
The governor made the disclosure while attending the opening of the 2026/2027 Legal Year at the High Court Headquarters, where he joined members of the Benue State Judiciary, the Bar and other stakeholders.
Alia said his administration had granted the Judiciary full financial and administrative autonomy. That decision, he noted, had enabled greater investment in court infrastructure and better welfare for judicial officers and law officers.
The projects commissioned include the Judicial Service Commission Complex, a High Court Clinic, a remodelled High Court Complex and asphalted internal roads within the court premises. Construction has also begun on a modern Ministry of Justice Complex.
The governor called for closer cooperation between the Executive and the Judiciary. He urged stakeholders to maintain integrity, fairness and professionalism, and appealed for quicker resolution of cases, warning that delayed justice can amount to denial of justice.
