Senator representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, has expressed confusion over the emerging opposition coalition led by prominent political figures including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, and Nasir El-Rufai.
While acknowledging his close personal relationships with the quartet, Kalu distanced himself from their alliance, which is reportedly aimed at unseating President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, after a visit to Governor Alex Otti, Kalu reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC and pledged his full support to ensure Tinubu’s re-election.
“Atiku is a personal friend, Amaechi is a personal friend, Peter Obi is my friend, brother, and in-law. El-Rufai is also my personal friend and brother,” Kalu said. “Their coalition is something I don’t understand. What I do understand is that the APC is on course, and I have many triggers to pull in support of the party.”
He also lauded Governor Otti for his developmental strides in Abia State, noting that despite their political differences, they remain brothers.
“Otti is my brother and he’s doing well. It took me one hour to drive from my village to this place. I’m not part of any coalition — the APC remains the largest party in Africa,” he added.
