Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has condemned the recent violent attacks in parts of the state, particularly in Bokkos Local Government Area, describing them as acts of “terrorism and genocide.”
Speaking at the inaugural Plateau Business Coalition for Health Summit organized by the Nigerian Medical Association in Jos, the governor said the violence was a deliberate and systematic effort to wipe out entire communities.
“These are not communal clashes or farmer-herder conflicts. What we are witnessing is a calculated, professional, and systematic attempt to wipe out a people; this is ethnic cleansing. We must stop hiding behind euphemisms and confront the hard truth,” Mutfwang stated.
The governor also expressed concern over the worsening humanitarian crisis, with thousands displaced and health facilities overstretched following the attacks. DAILY POST reports that over 50 people have been killed in the past two weeks in Bokkos LGA alone.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to restoring peace, Mutfwang highlighted ongoing efforts to address the security situation and assist affected communities.
Shifting focus to healthcare, the governor pledged to transform the sector, calling for strong public-private partnerships to mobilise resources for sustainable development. He stressed the need for innovative financing models and bold reforms to upgrade infrastructure, procure modern equipment, and attract skilled personnel.
“The public treasury alone cannot meet our healthcare needs. We must engage the private sector meaningfully to bridge the financing gap,” he said.
Mutfwang noted achievements under his administration, including major upgrades at the Plateau State Specialist Hospital and plans to establish a Faculty of Medicine at Plateau State University.
He also announced collaborations with international partners, such as a German medical exchange programme and an Israeli-supported telemedicine initiative aimed at expanding healthcare access across the state.
Commending medical professionals, Mutfwang described them as “miracle workers” and promised to improve their working conditions.
“Healthcare demands passion, precision, and sacrifice. We are committed to creating an enabling environment for you to flourish,” he said.
The governor urged all stakeholders to work together to improve Plateau’s health indices, emphasizing the collective responsibility to secure a healthier future.
