The Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide Youth Wing, has condemned the ongoing prosecution of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), by the Nigerian government, calling it a collective persecution of the southeastern people (Ndigbo). In a statement issued on Tuesday in Awka by its National Publicity Secretary, Mazi Chika Art Adiele, the organisation responded to the jurisdictional debate surrounding Kanu’s terrorism charges. This came after Kanu’s latest appearance before Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja, where the long-standing legal battle continued. Despite Kanu’s argument that Justice Nyako lacks the…
Former Labour Party (LP) stalwart Kenneth Okonkwo has urged President Bola Tinubu, Peter Obi, and ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar to withdraw from contesting the presidency in the upcoming election. Okonkwo, who served as a spokesperson for the LP’s presidential campaign during the 2023 general election, worked closely with Obi, the party’s flagbearer in that race. However, two years later, the Nollywood actor-turned-politician has retracted his support for Obi, calling on the LP leader, Atiku, and Tinubu to step aside and allow fresh candidates to emerge in Nigeria’s next electoral cycle. During an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, he reaffirmed…
The Leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has warned President Bola Tinubu to reconsider the proposed creation of additional states in Nigeria, cautioning that it could lead to serious problems, including the country’s disintegration. In a statement issued on Tuesday by his media aide, Osho Oluwatosin, Ayodele criticized the plan to establish 30 new states, arguing that it would bring more hardship to Nigerians rather than fostering development. According to the cleric, unless properly planned, the addition of more states would only worsen Nigeria’s challenges. “The creation of more states will not bring prosperity to the country…

Kenneth Okonkwo, a former spokesperson for the Labour Party (LP) presidential campaign council, has officially stepped down from the party, citing internal leadership disputes and a lack of clear direction. Okonkwo, who was instrumental in the LP’s 2023 presidential campaign, stated in his resignation letter addressed to Nigerians, that his resignation was fueled by the party’s inability to uphold principles of good governance, which had been his main reason for entering politics. The resignation letter addressed to Nigerians reads as follows; 11th February, 2025 To all Nigerians of Goodwill, RESIGNATION FROM LABOUR PARTY 1. I thank, most sincerely, all Nigerians…
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has eliminated the provision of free withdrawals for customers using Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) belonging to other banks. Previously, users were allowed three free withdrawals per month before incurring charges. The CBN stated that this policy revision was necessary due to increasing operational costs and the need to enhance ATM service efficiency. Under the new directive, the exemption for three free withdrawals under Section 10.6.2 of the Guide is no longer in effect. However, withdrawals from a customer’s own bank’s ATMs will remain free. For transactions at another bank’s ATM within bank premises, customers…
The ruler of Rano, Ambassador Muhammad Isa Umaru, has enforced a firm prohibition on church gatherings within residential properties across the Emirate. This decision comes in response to numerous complaints from concerned community members, prompting the Emir to establish a specialized investigative panel. The panel’s findings confirmed that a church located in Yadi Quarters, Rano town, had been conducting religious services in a private residence without following the required legal protocols. Rano Emirate hosts 27 officially recognized churches where Christians practice their faith without restriction. However, holding unauthorized worship services in residential areas caused unrest among residents, leading to formal…
Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has claimed he is aware of alleged plans to arrest him but insists he will not flee Nigeria. El-Rufai, who has been at odds with some members of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, said the alleged threats are attempts to force him into self-imposed exile. The rift escalated after El-Rufai publicly criticized the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for what he described as deviating from its core values. Responding to a social media post on Tuesday, El-Rufai, who is currently in Egypt, confirmed that he would return to Nigeria before February 20. “I will spend…
