As we approach the Annual General Conference (AGC), we must leverage this opportunity. Every member of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) possesses the power to ensure that certain provisions in the recent proposed constitutional amendment do not sail through. I encourage every member of the NBA to take time to review the proposed amendments and to dedicate the entire day of the AGM not just to attend, but to raise our collective voice against certain objectionable amendments to the NBA Constitution that the leadership may have overlooked and not considered the dangers of same. 1. Part II Article 7(1), 5a(xi),…
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Friday conducted elections to fill vacant positions across the country. Unfortunately, the exercise was marred by widespread irregularities, ranging from vote buying and ballot stuffing to intimidation and outright falsification of results. This recurring tragedy compels us to confront a systemic reality: election rigging in Nigeria will not abate until political office is stripped of its financial glamour and redefined as a platform for genuine service. The 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) declares in Section 14(2)(b) that “the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary…
REFRESHING DIVERSE LEGAL PERSPECTIVES AND EXCITING INTELLECTUAL DEBATES ON THE AKWA IBOM AIR FEMALE PASSENGER IMBROGLIO The Ibom Air flight saga of August 10, 2025 which involved a female passenger naturally attracted national attention and outcries. Many opinions were expressed, expectedly and certainly not in unison. It is good that that theatre of the absurd has ended or has been taken off public glare, as it were. It is also commendable that the Federal Government ordered the withdrawal of the criminal case against the female passenger. Expectedly, the dramatis persona, including members of the public, especially air travelers, would have…

Speaking to bibncollar.com at his office on 59 Njiribeako Street yesterday, Nosike expressed delight after seamlessly picking up his conference bag from the NBA Owerri Secretariat on Saturday, 16 August 2025. According to him, the entire process was smooth and efficient, reflecting a high level of…
Chief Emeka Ozoani, SAN, was the Special Guest and Host at the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Umuahia Branch Monthly Meeting for July 2025, held on Friday, 26th July 2025. The highlight of the meeting was the unanimous adoption of Chief Emeka Ozoani, SAN, as an Honorary Member of the branch, in recognition of his extraordinary philanthropy and unwavering dedication to the legal profession. As a private legal practitioner and Chairman of the NBA National Welfare Committee, the learned Silk has made countless donations to the NBA Healthcare Scheme, and offered critical support to young, indigent, and ailing lawyers across various…
Dear learned colleagues, as you prepare for the 2025 Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA-AGC 2025), several pertinent questions demand our collective reflection, especially for an event that claims to represent the interests and advancement of Nigerian legal practitioners. 1. Beyond the Glamour: What Are the Core Conversations? While the AGC undoubtedly offers invaluable opportunities for social interaction, professional networking, and reunion among colleagues, we must ask: what are the substantive topics lined up for discussion at this year’s Conference? How do these topics speak directly to the real and pressing challenges confronting Nigerian lawyers? How will…
