The Bauchi State Police Command has called on the organizers of the “Take It Back Movement” to reconsider their planned nationwide protest scheduled for today, Monday, April 7, citing significant security concerns.
In a statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, the police acknowledged the constitutional right to peaceful assembly but described the timing of the protest as “inappropriate” and “potentially unpatriotic,” as it coincides with National Police Day — a day set aside to honor the sacrifices and contributions of Nigerian police officers.
According to the Command, the organizers did not formally notify law enforcement agencies or request security coverage for the protest, a development that raises concerns over public safety, especially amid prevailing national tensions.
The Commissioner of Police in Bauchi, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers to step up patrols across identified flashpoints to prevent any potential breakdown of law and order.
While reaffirming its commitment to upholding human rights and freedom of expression, the Command advised the protest organizers to open dialogue with appropriate government institutions and submit detailed plans for any future demonstrations to facilitate adequate security arrangements.
In addition, the police issued a public advisory to parents and guardians, urging them to discourage youth participation in activities that could threaten the peace and stability of the state.
Residents were also encouraged to go about their lawful activities and to report any suspicious movements or behavior using the Police Rescue Me app or the Command’s emergency hotlines.
The planned protest, expected to take place in Bauchi and other major cities, is part of a wider campaign by the “Take It Back Movement” advocating for governance reforms. Organizers have stated that the protest also aims to address concerns about cyberbullying and the recent emergency declaration in Rivers State.
