Udengs Eradiri, the Labour Party’s governorship candidate in the 2023 Bayelsa State election, has called on Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara to seek reconciliation with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, amid the ongoing political crisis in the state.
Speaking in a statement, Eradiri blamed Fubara’s alleged incompetence for the unrest in Rivers State, urging him to stop framing the issue through an ethnic lens.
“Governor Siminalayi Fubara is incompetent, and that incompetence is what has fueled this crisis,” Eradiri said. “He should not drag the Ijaw people into his political battles. How has he even supported Ijaw causes? How many Ijaws in Rivers State has he empowered or appointed?”
The former LP candidate advised Fubara to take a humble approach and make peace with Wike.
“I advise Fubara to go and kneel before Wike and ask for forgiveness. Those encouraging him today still go behind closed doors to beg Wike, but return to the public pretending to be Ijaw heroes,” he added.
Eradiri also criticized the Ijaw National Congress (INC) for its handling of the situation, accusing the body of ethnicizing a political issue and contributing to what he described as an embarrassment for the Ijaw nation.
