A prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Joe Igbokwe, has once again condemned the ongoing calls for the actualization of Biafra, describing the agitations as “senseless” and detrimental to the South-East region.
In a post shared on his official Facebook page, Igbokwe expressed frustration over the continuous push for secession, warning that such efforts could lead to the destruction of the geopolitical zone.
“I wrote the book IGBO: 25 Years After Biafra in 1995, but they did not listen. I wrote IGBO: 50 Years After Biafra in 2020, still they did not listen,” he lamented.
“I have written hundreds of articles warning that these senseless agitations will destroy the South-East. They did not listen. I am done,” he added.
The remarks come amid the enforcement of a sit-at-home order by members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in commemoration of Biafra Day 2025.
Reports from across the region, including Umuahia—the capital of Abia State—indicate that streets were deserted Friday morning, with minimal movement observed. In many areas, roads remained largely empty, with only a few tricycles and private vehicles seen.
