As preparations intensify for the upcoming local government elections in Lagos State, the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has charged its Electoral and Assistant Electoral Officers to demonstrate unwavering integrity and professionalism in the conduct of the July 12 council poll.
Speaking during a retreat organized for the officers, LASIEC Chairman, Justice Bola Okikiolu-Ighile (Rtd), emphasized the importance of their roles in ensuring the credibility of the electoral process. She urged the officials to justify the commission’s trust and investment in them by redoubling their commitment and dedication.
“This gathering is not just a training session—it is a vital opportunity to reflect, learn, and sharpen our preparedness for the responsibilities ahead,” Justice Okikiolu-Ighile said. “As Electoral Officers and Assistant Electoral Officers, you are the face of LASIEC on the field. Your conduct and professionalism will directly impact public perception of the election and the commission.”
The LASIEC chairman stressed the need for a fair, transparent, and peaceful election, calling on participants to adopt a results-driven mindset and a strong ethical compass throughout the process.
She further reiterated the commission’s commitment to capacity building, noting that continuous training is essential for staying aligned with global best practices in election administration.
“Public trust in the electoral system is not automatic—it is earned through consistent impartiality and excellence in service delivery,” she added.
Also speaking at the retreat, Chairman of the Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Judiciary, Petitions, Human Rights, and LASIEC, Hon. Oladipo Olayinka Ajomale, encouraged the officers to approach their duties with a sense of responsibility and patriotism.
“As Lagosians, you owe it to your fellow citizens to deliver a transparent, credible, and litigation-free election. Your diligence will pave the way for results that are widely accepted and respected,” he said.
The retreat served as both a preparatory forum and a morale booster as LASIEC gears up for the July 12 local government elections.
