The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to release additional funding for ongoing infrastructural projects across the country, urging him to ignore critics questioning the costs.
Umahi made the call on Thursday during the official commissioning of the Deep Sea Port Access Road in Lagos. He emphasized that the project has received positive reviews from international financiers, who described it as being undervalued.
“I want to assure you, sir, that international financiers have commended your administration. They believe the project is even undervalued,” Umahi stated. “Sir, don’t listen to critics. Give us more money, and we will deliver these projects.”
The Minister also addressed concerns raised about the cost of the Deep Sea Port Access Road, suggesting that such criticism often comes from a place of limited technical understanding.
“When people give counsel without technical knowledge… Your Excellency, I am a Fellow of the Society of Engineers. I understand the figures and the scope of this work,” he said.
Umahi expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for commissioning the first 30 kilometres of the project and assured that the section would be fully completed by December. He noted plans to toll the road and reported that work on Section 2 is also nearing completion.
“I commend the contractor for their dedication and performance,” he added.
