Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North, has urged Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State to abandon the political habits associated with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as he joins the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement responding to Oborevwori’s recent defection, Nwoko welcomed the governor’s decision to leave the PDP but advised him to approach his new political platform with a fresh mindset. He stressed the need for transformation and warned against carrying over the practices that, in his view, led to the PDP’s decline in Delta State.
“Leave behind the politics of survival and step into the politics of legacy. No one pours new wine into old wineskins. Old habits, old politics, and the deals that weakened the PDP in Delta must be left in the past,” Nwoko said.
The senator noted that the APC had already laid the groundwork for major constitutional reforms, including the proposed creation of Anioma and New Delta states. He emphasized that these initiatives predate the governor’s defection and reflect the party’s commitment to addressing regional imbalances.
“This agenda was declared a done deal by the APC leadership long before your defection. It shows our resolve to correct historical injustices and end marginalisation,” Nwoko stated.
He urged Governor Oborevwori to embrace his new role with a renewed sense of purpose, champion constitutional reform, and commit to principles of equity, inclusive development, and progressive governance.
