Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has criticized supporters of President Bola Tinubu, accusing them of turning a blind eye to the worsening insecurity and economic hardship facing Nigeria.
Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Wednesday, Lawal said insecurity in the country has significantly worsened since President Tinubu assumed office.
“I know he has his supporters,” Lawal said. “But I believe they either have cotton wool in their ears or they are blind, because insecurity has grown exponentially under this administration. It has spread to areas where it previously didn’t exist, and nothing meaningful has been done about it.”
The former SGF also described the state of the economy as “completely collapsed,” saying even Nigerians who were previously comfortable are now struggling.
“Poverty has multiplied drastically,” he added. “Even those who were doing well now feel threatened. There’s no functioning economy — we are all living from hand to mouth by the grace of God.”
Lawal further criticized the government’s spending priorities, alleging that funds are being spent on intangible or invisible projects with no direct impact on citizens.
“In my view, this administration is not focused on reviving the economy. It seems more interested in running the country down. It appears we were deceived all along,” he said.
