The High Court of Justice in Bauchi State has issued a contempt notice (Form 48) against the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Head of Economic Governance (EG1), Mr. Dare Folarin, over alleged defiance of a court order in an ongoing legal dispute.
A copy of the contempt notice, dated March 12, 2025, and obtained by our correspondent, warns that the EFCC officials could face imprisonment if they fail to comply with the court’s directive.
Barrister Ahmed Sani, counsel for the applicants—Aliyu Adamu and three others—revealed that the court had previously restrained the EFCC from taking any action against his clients until the case was resolved. However, despite being served with the order, Folarin allegedly continued to harass, intimidate, and eventually arrest Adamu.
“In a blatant act of defiance, Mr. Dare Folarin led an EFCC team to our client’s office, seized documents, and arrested him, violating the court’s order,” Sani stated. “This abuse of power is a direct assault on the justice system and must be addressed immediately.”
According to Sani, Folarin initially refused to accept Form 48 from the court bailiff, insisting that “the court cannot interfere with his work.” The bailiff was eventually forced to serve the document by throwing it at him.
Attempts to serve the EFCC Chairman were also met with resistance, as Folarin allegedly chased the bailiff out of the EFCC premises and threatened to detain him. The bailiff has since sworn an affidavit confirming service.
“If the EFCC and Mr. Dare Folarin persist in disobeying the court, we will proceed with Form 49 and initiate contempt proceedings,” Sani warned, urging compliance to avoid further legal consequences.
