A tragic accident claimed the lives of eight people on Sunday, February 16, at Amala, Ngor-Okpala Local Government Area of Imo State.
The crash involved a Toyota Camry (EPE 541 JO) and a Hyundai Santa Fe (AAA 212 CD), with all occupants of both vehicles losing their lives at the scene.
Confirming the incident on Monday, the Imo State Police Command’s spokesman, DSP Henry Okoye, stated that police operatives from the Ngor-Okpala Divisional Headquarters responded swiftly to manage the situation.
“The tragic accident occurred around 6:45 PM, and unfortunately, all eight occupants of the vehicles died on the spot, leaving no survivors,” Okoye said.
He added that a comprehensive investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the crash, and efforts are underway to identify and notify the families of the deceased. Pictorial evidence has also been documented to assist in further inquiries.
Okoye warned motorists against reckless driving and excessive speeding, emphasizing that such behaviors remain leading causes of road accidents.
He urged all road users to observe traffic rules, drive responsibly, and exercise patience to prevent future tragedies.
