Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has expressed strong confidence in delivering between 600,000 and 700,000 votes for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, citing the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s consistent growth in electoral performance in the state.
Oyebanji made the projection on Wednesday while speaking with journalists at the State House in Abuja after a meeting with President Tinubu. He pointed to the party’s rising vote count across recent elections as evidence that Tinubu’s re-election prospects in Ekiti are “very bright.”
“In 2022, when we first contested, we won with about 187,000 votes. Six months later, during the President’s election, we increased it to about 210,000 votes,” the governor said. “This 2026 governorship election has produced about 318,000 votes. So you can extrapolate from that and see that our target in 2027 is between 600,000 and 700,000 votes, and it is doable.”
Oyebanji, who secured a historic second term in last month’s governorship election, becoming the first governor in the state to do so, attributed his victory to divine grace and the support of President Tinubu, which he said enabled his administration to fulfil key campaign promises.
“It is not about what I have done differently. It is about two factors: the grace of God, and the support of the President that enabled us to deliver on our promises to our people,” he stated.
The governor also used the occasion to signal a shift from campaign mode to governance, pledging a more inclusive administration in his second term. He revealed that he had already reached out to his major opponents, personally calling both candidates and visiting one alongside the chairman of his campaign council.
“I phoned the two other candidates and, together with the chairman of the campaign council, we visited one of them. Once I get back to Ekiti, I will visit the other one,” Oyebanji said. “They have assured me of their cooperation because election has ended, politics has ended and we have to move back to governance.”
On his priorities for the next four years, the governor said his administration would continue to be guided by Ekiti State’s 30-year development plan, which forms the foundation for annual budgets and policy decisions.
“We are not going to do anything differently because that 30-year development plan is the basis upon which our yearly budgets are built and upon which our manifesto is crafted. We will continue to diligently follow that plan,” he added.
