The Federal Government has assured organized labour, particularly the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), of President Bola Tinubu’s dedication to maintaining industrial harmony across the country.
It also called on all labour sector stakeholders to prevent avoidable conflicts that could lead to industrial disputes, emphasizing the government’s commitment to resolving labour-related issues promptly.
Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammad Dingyadi, gave this assurance during a visit to NLC President Joe Ajaero at the Labour headquarters in Abuja.
In a statement by Patience Onuobia, Head of Press and Public Relations at the Ministry of Labour and Employment, the minister commended Ajaero for demonstrating restraint by suspending the planned protest against telecom tariff hikes.
“The Minister reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to fostering industrial peace and cooperation,” the statement read.
Dingyadi emphasized that his visit aimed to strengthen the partnership between organized labour and the Tinubu administration, fostering a collaborative approach to labour relations. He noted that since assuming office in November last year, he had intended to visit the NLC leadership, recognizing its critical role in labour affairs.
He further reiterated the administration’s commitment to enhancing cooperation between labour and employers in both the public and private sectors. He also lauded the NLC’s decision to reconsider its planned demonstration, highlighting the importance of dialogue in addressing labour concerns.
In response, NLC President Joe Ajaero welcomed the minister’s visit, describing it as a positive indication of his dedication to his responsibilities.
“For a long time, we have lacked leaders who genuinely prioritize Nigeria’s interests, but today, you have shown that you are ready to work. From the spirit you’ve displayed, I believe we can achieve significant progress,” Ajaero stated.
