The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) in Nasarawa State has begun an indefinite strike after the state government and Judicial Service Commission failed to meet its demands.
State chairman Comrade Mas’ud Ubangari confirmed the action on Tuesday night, directing all members to withdraw their services from midnight on Tuesday, September 15, 2026. The decision followed the expiration of a seven-day ultimatum issued to the authorities.
The union is demanding the immediate implementation of a 40 per cent peculiar allowance approved by the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, financial autonomy for the judiciary, a 58.1 per cent salary increase, and the processing of pending conversions and outstanding promotions. Ubangari accused the authorities of using delay tactics instead of addressing the issues.
The Nasarawa State Judicial Service Commission has ordered all judicial staff to report to their duty posts and remain at work, citing a subsisting order of the National Industrial Court.
In a statement, Executive Secretary Ramatu Idris said the proposed industrial action was premature given ongoing efforts to address the union’s demands and the existing court ruling.
The commission warned that any judicial worker who fails to report for duty faces disciplinary action under applicable laws and regulations. It reaffirmed its commitment to the rule of law, constructive engagement and industrial harmony.
