Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has said Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma and other All Progressives Congress governors are fighting him because they resent his appointment as FCT minister.
Speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Tuesday, Wike linked the hostility to events that began with his ministerial nomination. He said the APC governors were unhappy he received the FCT portfolio and accused them of misleading Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara during the political crisis in the state.
Wike claimed some APC governors collected money from Fubara yet failed to secure a second term for him. He rejected suggestions that opposition to any “rainbow coalition” explained their stance.
He pointed to electoral results to underline his criticism. “Uzodinma was the governor of Imo State, but Tinubu was not able to get 10% of the votes from his state. Even in Ebonyi State, the same thing happened,” Wike said.
He also questioned claims about coalitions by noting APC victories in National Assembly elections in Ebonyi, Abia and Enugu states, places where the president recorded less than 10 per cent of the votes.
Wike’s comments come amid ongoing political tensions between him and some APC governors, particularly Uzodinma.
