Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has explained why she opted for a helicopter instead of traveling by road during her recent visit to constituents in Kogi State.
Speaking on Channels TV’s Politics Today on Thursday, the senator representing Kogi Central revealed that her decision was influenced by her husband’s advice, given the tense security situation and restrictions in the area.
Reports indicate that Akpoti-Uduaghan received a warm reception from supporters on Tuesday, despite a government ban on rallies and processions. Supporters from the five local government areas of Kogi Central gathered in Ihima, Okehi LGA, to welcome the embattled PDP lawmaker.
Explaining her choice of transport, she said:
“When I saw the prohibition of fishing and water activities, the ban on convoys, and a list of sudden checkpoints restricting access to my senatorial district—from Ibilo to Kogi via Auchi, Okene, Abuja, Lokoja, Akure, Ikare, and other key routes—I knew there would be trouble. My husband then suggested, ‘Why not use a helicopter and land directly in our compound?’ since we own the land opposite our village home. And that’s exactly what we did.”
She emphasized that her actions did not violate any laws, stating:
“With that move, we broke no law. The people gathered within my compound, and the road you see us walking through was constructed by me—it’s not a government road or facility. Therefore, I broke no law. I am a law-abiding citizen of Nigeria.”
