Former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, has called on President Bola Tinubu to settle the N45 billion reportedly owed to the family of the late Chief MKO Abiola by the Nigerian government.
Speaking on Tuesday in Abuja at the public presentation of his book, Being True To Myself, Lamido emphasized the need to bring closure to the events surrounding the June 12, 1993 presidential election, which Abiola won but was never allowed to assume office.
“I want to appeal to President Tinubu to finally close the chapter of June 12. General Ibrahim Babangida himself acknowledged in his book that Abiola won that election,” Lamido said.
He added that during a personal visit to Babangida, the former military leader revealed that Abiola was being owed N45 billion by the federal government.
“Abiola was punished twice — first, by being denied the presidency he rightfully won, and second, by not being paid what he is owed,” Lamido stated.
Addressing the Minister of Information, who represented the President at the event, Lamido urged him to relay the message directly to Tinubu. “Please tell him to pay Abiola’s family the N45 billion. Once that is done, we can finally close the chapter of June 12. It is very important,” he said.
Lamido also expressed gratitude to God, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, and others who supported the success of the book launch.
