The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has raised fresh concerns over the growing use of everyday consumer products by drug traffickers to conceal illicit substances.
In a statement posted on X on Sunday, the agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, warned that criminal networks are increasingly disguising narcotics as ordinary items such as cookies, gummies and phone chargers.
Babafemi urged parents to pay closer attention to their children’s interest in cookies and gummies following recent seizures by NDLEA operatives. He shared images of colourful packages labelled “Cookies Delta 8 Gummies” in flavours including Hawaiian Rain, Pineapple Guava and Thai Mango, noting that the packaging was deliberately designed to resemble regular confectionery.
In a separate post, Babafemi disclosed that NDLEA officers had intercepted consignments of cocaine concealed inside phone chargers. The items were allegedly destined for Saudi Arabia.
He further cautioned travellers against accepting parcels, luggage or packages from others without verifying their contents. Drug traffickers, he said, continue to exploit unsuspecting individuals to move illicit substances across borders.
The NDLEA has reiterated its call for heightened vigilance as traffickers adopt more sophisticated methods to conceal and transport banned substances.
