The Federal Government has dispatched a dedicated passport intervention team to the United Kingdom to clear processing delays for Nigerians living abroad.
The team, sent by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) on the directive of Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, will collaborate with the Nigerian High Commission in the UK. It is scheduled to arrive on Monday and will travel to designated cities across the country to handle passport enrolment and resolve outstanding applications.
According to an NIS statement issued on Sunday, the exercise will serve three groups of applicants: those with pending applications, people seeking new passports, and holders whose passports expire within the next year and need renewal.
Applicants must present completed application forms and proof of payment at enrolment. The service will publish a detailed timetable covering cities, dates, venues, and enrolment periods.
Officials urged Nigerians not to travel to any location until the schedule is released and to follow updates only from the Nigerian High Commission in the UK and other official channels.
The intervention forms part of broader efforts to improve passport services for the diaspora and cut long-standing delays in enrolment, processing, and renewal. The NIS said further operational details will be communicated before the exercise begins.
