The Nigerian Air Force, under the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), has conducted a decisive airstrike that neutralised dozens of Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters and dismantled critical logistics infrastructure within the Timbuktu Triangle, a notorious insurgent haven in Borno State.
The operation, which took place around 3:00 p.m. on Thursday in the Chiraliya area, was based on credible intelligence and real-time surveillance, according to security sources cited by counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama.
“Our platforms executed a deliberate and well-coordinated air interdiction mission at the terrorists’ hideout in Chiraliya,” a source said. “We recorded direct hits on multiple targets, including makeshift shelters, logistics hubs, and movement corridors.”
Battle Damage Assessment (BDA) confirmed the successful elimination of numerous insurgents and the destruction of key facilities that supported ISWAP operations. Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) footage from the mission revealed secondary explosions, indicating the presence of arms and fuel stockpiles.
Follow-up airstrikes were also carried out against fleeing fighters attempting to escape into surrounding forest areas.
This operation forms part of an ongoing and intensified air campaign aimed at degrading ISWAP’s operational capabilities and preventing future attacks on military and civilian targets.
