A 36-year-old Nigerian man, Fawaz Abdulkareem, was sentenced to life imprisonment on Thursday at Croydon Crown Court for the murder of 32-year-old Daniel Manuel in a dispute that ended in a fatal stabbing. The incident occurred in the early hours of 5 July 2025 at a residential building on Bondway in Vauxhall, south London.
Abdulkareem was also convicted of possessing a bladed article. The judge ordered that he must serve a minimum of 17 years before becoming eligible for parole.
According to the Metropolitan Police, Manuel and Abdulkareem had spent the evening socialising with friends before returning to the defendant’s flat, where a heated argument erupted. Manuel sustained fatal stab wounds and was found collapsed in the building’s lobby. Despite swift intervention by police, paramedics, and medical staff, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators recovered the suspected murder weapon after it was discarded from an upper floor of the building. Abdulkareem was arrested at the scene and formally charged the following day. Following a full trial, a jury returned guilty verdicts on both counts.
Detective Inspector Luke Hampton, who led the investigation, described the outcome as the result of meticulous police work. “Our thoughts remain with Daniel’s family, and we hope this sentence provides them with some measure of comfort,” he said.
In a victim impact statement read in court, Manuel’s wife, Zulal, spoke poignantly of her husband’s central role in her life and the devastating void his death has left in their family.
