The Forward Operating Base (FOB) Escravos of the Nigerian Navy has deactivated three illegal refining sites in Delta State.
Navy Captain Ikenna Okoloagu, Commanding Officer of FOB Escravos, disclosed this to journalists on Thursday in Warri, Delta State. He stated that the sites were dismantled on Monday following credible intelligence.
According to Okoloagu, the illegal refining operations were located in the coastal community of Oteghele, within the Obodo Omadino area of Warri South-West Local Government Area. The sites contained approximately 2,700 liters of stolen crude oil and 2,200 liters of illegally refined Automotive Gasoline Oil (AGO). The products were stored in two ovens, ten dug-out pits, two drums, and 26 polythene sacks.
“In our ongoing efforts to combat crude oil theft, pipeline vandalism, and economic sabotage, personnel of FOB Escravos successfully deactivated three illegal refining sites,” Okoloagu stated. “This operation aligns with the Nigerian Navy’s mission to enhance the country’s daily crude oil production.”
He further noted that the crackdown was part of Operation DELTA SANITY II, which is guided by credible intelligence. The effort reinforces the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to implementing the strategic directives of the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, aimed at eliminating illegal activities in the nation’s maritime environment.
Okoloagu warned those involved in illegal refining and oil theft to desist, emphasizing that anyone caught sabotaging national assets would face severe consequences.
