A governorship aspirant in the upcoming November 8 Anambra election, Prof. Obiora Okonkwo, has declared that he is on a mission to rescue the state from further decline.
Speaking at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja, where he collected his 50 million naira nomination and expression of interest forms, Okonkwo expressed confidence in his chances, describing himself as a frontline candidate in the race.
The forms were purchased for him by a support group under the banner of the Anambra Coalition for Progressive Change.
“I am from Anambra Central, and the votes are domiciled in Idemili North. I am the leader of Idemili North and South, so the votes are guaranteed,” he asserted.
Okonkwo, who is the Chairman of United Nigeria Airlines Company Limited, claimed that his ambition has unsettled the incumbent governor, Charles Soludo, insisting that he (Soludo) knows I am the candidate to beat.”
Grateful for the support from the coalition, Okonkwo vowed not to disappoint his backers, the APC, or the people of Anambra if elected.
“You have just presented me with a great gift of 50 million naira . As you can see, I am full of smiles. I would have said I wasn’t t expecting this, but I know I am not in this race alone. Many people are determined that what is happening in Anambra isn’t the way to go, especially with the issue of insecurity.”
“For those who haven’t joined this coalition, this is a wake-up call. We will do justice to rescue Anambra from a man who knows it all and takes no advice.”
Okonkwo also alleged that significant resources were being mobilized to prevent him from securing the APC ticket, but he remained undeterred.
“We are aware of the huge amount being thrown around to stop me from getting the ticket. Soludo knows he cannot compete with me on Election Day. I have picked the form, and I am ready for the battle.”
He further urged traditional institutions and religious leaders to rally behind his candidacy, emphasizing that with the APC ticket in his hands, he would deliver a landslide victory for the party.
