The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has cautioned Governor Ademola Adeleke and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against actions it says are aimed at sowing disunity within the opposition party ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
In a statement issued on Tuesday in Osogbo by the party chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, the APC alleged that the PDP was attempting to distract its governorship aspirants to gain political advantage.
According to Lawal, the PDP is willing to go to any length to destabilize the APC, but he assured party members that such efforts would not derail the opposition’s mission to unseat Governor Adeleke from the Bola Ige House in 2026.
He further accused the PDP of deliberately twisting a video clip of APC National Secretary and governorship aspirant, Senator Ajibola Basiru, in a bid to mislead the public and stir controversy.
“It is unfortunate that some reactionary elements have been falling over themselves, misinterpreting a video statement made by our national secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, who is also a governorship aspirant for the 2026 election,” Lawal said.
He described the PDP’s interpretation of the video as a deliberate act of misinformation, stressing that the statement in question was a reaffirmation of the APC’s resolve to democratically remove Governor Adeleke, whom he described as a “temporary occupant” of the governor’s office.
Lawal also referenced a press conference recently organized by the APC State Working Committee, where the party condemned the alleged misuse of the Amotekun Corps by the Adeleke administration to intimidate opposition members in Itaapa, Atakumosa-East Local Government Area.
Commenting on the ongoing legal tussle over local government federal allocations, Lawal claimed the PDP’s discomfort stemmed from setbacks it is facing in court. He reaffirmed support for President Bola Tinubu, describing him as a constitutional leader committed to peace and good governance.
He urged APC members to ignore PDP propaganda and remain focused on the goal of defeating Governor Adeleke in the next election.
Meanwhile, a former House of Representatives member and ex-Director General of Senator Iyiola Omisore’s 2018 governorship campaign, Bade Falade, has also weighed in on the situation. He described President Tinubu as a “treasured progressive leader” whose contributions to Osun and Nigeria are widely respected.
Falade accused the Osun PDP of attempting to create a rift between the state APC and the party’s national leadership, calling such efforts mischievous and baseless.
He also alleged that Governor Adeleke is secretly seeking to align with the APC to avoid an inevitable defeat in 2026.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is the pride of the APC in Osun and across Nigeria,” Falade said. “He is our collective investment. Anyone who dares to insult or undermine him has no place in this party. It is sheer mischief for anyone to suggest otherwise.”
Falade concluded by dismissing rumors of internal discord, emphasizing that the APC remains united behind President Tinubu and determined to reclaim Osun State in 2026.
