The Old Boys of St. Mary’s Seminary, Umuowa, Class of 2005, marked their Silver Jubilee on Sunday, January 19, 2025, in grand style, commemorating 25 years since their admission into the renowned Bonus Pastor Seminary, Osina.
St. Mary’s Seminary, Umuowa, serves as the senior wing (SS1 to SS3) of the affiliated Bonus Pastor Seminary, Osina, which houses junior classes (JSS1 to JSS3).
The official Jubilee date was September 19, 2024, but celebrations were extended to include members in the diaspora. The first phase took place on January 2, 2025, while the Thanksgiving Mass for the second phase was held on January 19, 2025, at the Bonus Pastor Seminary Chapel.
The day began with a con-celebrated Mass at 10 a.m., during which four seminarians—Madu Munachi Brian, Ozohiri Chiagozie John, Ezeibekwe Goodluck Osinachi, and Duru Maduabuchukwu Godgift—were awarded scholarships for their outstanding academic performances.
Addressing the seminarians after the Mass, the Alumni President, Barr. Chinedu Agu, encouraged them to fully embrace the holistic formation they are receiving. He emphasized that seminary training prepares individuals not only for priesthood but also for excellence in various professions, including medicine, law, and engineering, etc.
Following the Mass, the association commissioned the renovated school library, a project spearheaded by the Owa Old Boys Association, 2005. Seminarians were urged to utilize the upgraded library facilities to enhance their academic pursuits.
The celebrations will conclude on Sunday, January 26, 2025, with a Thanksgiving Mass at St. Mary’s Seminary, Umuowa. Scholarships will once again be awarded to four deserving seminarians, and another significant project will be unveiled.
The day will end with a novelty football match at 4 p.m., featuring the Old Boys and the Seminary Team, rounding off a momentous Silver Jubilee celebration.
