*Suspends Unruly members of the club
In a decisive move to restore order, uphold the integrity of its constitution, and correct recent misinformation, the members of Owerri Club have reaffirmed the legitimate leadership of the Club and unanimously nullified the purported “Interim Management Committee” announced earlier in the week by dissident and rebellious members of the club.

At an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) convened yesterday 1st May 2025, the Club formed a quorum with 34 financial members at commencement, growing to over 50 members by conclusion—solidifying the meeting’s legitimacy. The session, chaired in strict compliance with the Club Rules Book, yielded several critical resolutions to dispel the confusion arising from an earlier unauthorized gathering held on 29th April 2025.
Key Resolutions:
- Suspension of the Day’s Agenda:
The first motion, moved by Dr. Barr. Uzo Ibekwe and seconded by Mr. Awurum Innocent Chibuzo, approved the suspension of the originally scheduled agenda to address urgent governance matters. The voice vote was overwhelmingly in the affirmative. - Nullification of Purported Interim Committee:
The second motion, moved by Mr. Lionel Anyanwu and seconded by Barr. Norbert Agbodike, nullified the so-called “Interim Management Committee”, which had been unilaterally and unconstitutionally announced on 29th April. Citing the Club Rules Book, the house confirmed that no provision permits the removal or impeachment of a duly constituted Management Committee. The voice vote carried unanimously, with no dissent. - Suspension of the Mutinous Members Involved in the Unconstitutional Action:
A third motion, moved by Barr. Asika Ilobi and seconded by Barr. Chukwuemeka Enwereuzor, called for the indefinite suspension of all the insurgent individuals involved in orchestrating or supporting the unconstitutional acts. The motion also included a directive for enhanced security by restricting entry into the Club House to a single point. The affected individuals include:- Mr. Onyebuchi Obinwa
- Mr. Ik Ogbonna
- Mr. Emeka Onyema
- Chief Emma Ebili
- Chief Chidi Anyaso
- The house again responded with a unanimous voice vote in favor of the motion.
- Solidarity and Support for Members:
In a demonstration of the club’s enduring camaraderie, members raised a sum of ₦98,000 as a condolence contribution to Mazi Udo Okereke, whose elder brother’s funeral was scheduled for the following day. - Dignitaries in Attendance:
Two of the Club’s Trustees were present at the EGM, further strengthening its legitimacy. The Club’s Grand Patron also arrived shortly after the close of proceedings.
The Club unequivocally states that the purported “sack” of the Chief Charles Okeke-led Management Committee and the installation of an interim body were carried out in blatant violation of the Club Rules Book and are therefore null and void. The Club has no constitutional provision for an “interim committee,” and the attempts to convene an alternative leadership outside due process are deemed a malicious coup against established order.

In the statement signed by the Secretary of the Club, he enjoined members and the general public to disregard any contrary publication or claim, assuring that the Club remains committed to upholding its constitution, fostering transparency, and maintaining unity among its members.
