Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor and the 2023 governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, has called for a more inclusive political culture in the state—one that encourages constructive engagement among leaders, irrespective of party lines.
Jandor made this remark during a visit to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu at the Lagos State Government House on Tuesday, where he described the governor as a “gentleman” and commended his composure during the last election campaign.
Addressing journalists after the meeting, Jandor confirmed that he was officially notifying Governor Sanwo-Olu of his return to the All Progressives Congress (APC). He had earlier announced his defection from the PDP and return to the APC while meeting with supporters in the Ojo area of the state. His resignation from the PDP took effect on March 3.
Reflecting on the 2023 election, Jandor noted the internal divisions within the APC at the time, which he believes contributed to the party’s challenges during the polls.
“Lagos deserves a political climate where leaders can engage constructively regardless of party affiliation,” Jandor said. “I believe this visit reflects the kind of politics we should be practising—one that puts the development of our state above personal or partisan interests.”
He added, “I am back to be with my political family. We all know what happened during the last election. It was a divided house. Now, we are united again.”
Jandor had previously defected from the APC to the PDP to contest the 2023 governorship election. Despite mounting a strong challenge, he lost to the incumbent governor.
