Former Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Solomon Dalung, has condemned the recent killings in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, describing them as acts of terrorism rather than the result of the longstanding farmer-herder crisis.
Speaking on Arise TV’s Morning Show on Monday, Dalung insisted that the nature of the attacks pointed to a deeper, more organized threat.
“One major issue on the Plateau is the tendency to mislabel criminals based on ethnic identities or community affiliations,” he said. “What we’re witnessing is not a farmer-herder conflict. It is terrorism. These groups operate from enclaves similar to those in the North-East, where they steal cattle, seize land, and run a kind of parallel government in the bush.”
His comments follow reports by the Bokkos Cultural Development Council (BCDC), which revealed that suspected bandits killed over 10 people in the LGA on Wednesday night. By Saturday, the death toll had reportedly risen to 52.
The latest attack occurred just a week after gunmen stormed the Ruwi community in the same LGA, targeting mourners gathered at a bereaved family’s home.
Dalung’s remarks add to the growing calls for a reevaluation of the security situation in Plateau State and a more strategic response from authorities.
