The Bauchi State Police Command has successfully foiled an armed robbery operation along the Toro-Jos federal highway in the early hours of Tuesday, June 4, 2025.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil. He revealed that the operation followed a distress call received at about 3:30 a.m., alerting authorities that a group of armed robbers had mounted a roadblock on the highway and were robbing commuters.
In response, a tactical team led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Toro Division, in collaboration with auxiliary security personnel, was swiftly deployed to the scene.
“Upon arrival, the team engaged the suspects in a gun duel, leveraging superior firepower which forced the criminals to flee in different directions,” the statement said.
During the confrontation, one of the suspects—identified as 24-year-old Abdu Shagari—sustained fatal injuries and was later confirmed dead at the Toro General Hospital.
The police recovered several items at the scene, including a knife, a stick, two bottles of rubber solution, two cigarette butts, and a flashlight.
Wakil noted that the body of the deceased has been handed over to the Toro Local Government Social Welfare Department for appropriate burial arrangements.
The Bauchi State Police Command assured the public that efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects involved in the robbery.
