Regions Healthcare Foundation marked World Brain Day with a free medical outreach programme in Mgbirichi, Imo State, combining clinical services with community education on brain health.
The foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of Regions Healthcare Hospitals and Specialist Clinics, offered free medical consultations, blood pressure and blood sugar checks, body mass index assessments, health education sessions, guided exercises, brain health quizzes, counselling and free medications. The event also featured an awareness campaign designed to help residents recognise early symptoms of neurological conditions and seek timely care.
Dr. Sherece Okafor, president of the foundation, said the initiative reflects the hospital group’s commitment to extending quality healthcare beyond its facilities into surrounding communities. She noted that Regions Healthcare is among Nigeria’s leading specialist centres, providing advanced treatment for stroke, neurological disorders, neurorehabilitation, cardiac interventions and intensive care through multidisciplinary teams and modern technology.
Many neurological conditions, including stroke and epilepsy, can be prevented or better managed through early detection, healthy lifestyles and prompt medical attention, Dr. Okafor said. “Our message is simple: your brain matters. Prevention and early intervention save lives, and we want more people to understand the importance of protecting their brain health.”
The foundation plans to continue organising community-based health programmes, awareness campaigns and free medical outreaches as part of its broader effort to improve health outcomes across the Southeast and Nigeria.
