Suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has expressed optimism over restoring peace with his predecessor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
Speaking in a video message to his supporters, Fubara said there was no reason peace could not be achieved between him and Wike, whom he referred to as his “Oga.”
“There is no reason why there won’t be peace between me and my Oga. We want peace so that Rivers can move forward,” he said.
The rift between Fubara and Wike began shortly after Fubara assumed office in 2023. The fallout significantly impacted governance in the state, especially the state House of Assembly.
Amid escalating tensions and threats to security, President Bola Tinubu declared a six-month state of emergency in the state and appointed a Sole Administrator to manage its affairs.
In a bid to resolve the conflict, Fubara recently held a reconciliation meeting with President Tinubu and Wike. Speaking after the meeting, Wike described Fubara as “like a son” to him.
Fubara, addressing his supporters, appealed for unity and mutual respect.
“I want to plead with everyone. They say I’m not a politician, but I don’t know the entry requirement for being one. What matters most is respect—respect that is earned, not forced,” he said.
“I want to earn your respect by serving you, not bossing you. Feel free to correct me when I make mistakes. I need your support, and we need each other. Again, I assure you—I’m with you completely.”
