Suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, says he has reached a critical juncture in his leadership journey where tough decisions must be made for the good of the state.
In a statement released on Thursday to mark his second anniversary in office, Fubara reaffirmed his commitment to peace, development, and reconciliation. He pledged to work collaboratively with all stakeholders to restore unity and drive progress in the state.
“This is a crucial point in our journey, where difficult decisions must be made,” Fubara said. “Be assured that every step we take will be guided by your best interests and the enduring good of Rivers State.”
Fubara’s tenure has been marked by a political crisis involving his predecessor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. The power struggle between both leaders led to heightened tensions and ultimately a state of emergency declared by President Bola Tinubu, during which Fubara was suspended.
With the state of emergency nearing its end, Fubara and Wike recently met in a bid to resolve their differences. Following the meeting, Wike expressed his willingness for peace, describing Fubara as “his son.”
In his anniversary message, Fubara credited the people of Rivers for their continued support and emphasized the importance of unity and forgiveness in moving forward.
“Your support has emboldened me to press on and not retreat, but to work harder to foster peace, reconciliation, and forgiveness,” he said. “These are essential to restoring normalcy and delivering transformational infrastructure, impactful programmes, and life-changing services across the state.”
He also appealed to those still holding on to past political grievances to let go and join hands in rebuilding the state.
“To those still carrying the weight of our recent political struggles, I appeal to you: let us turn the page, come together, and focus on our shared goal of progress and unity,” he urged. “The time to rebuild and rise is now.”
Fubara concluded by expressing hope for the future and a renewed vision for Rivers State, pledging to continue serving with dedication and integrity.
