The Nigerian Senate has said it will examine recent comments by Senator Adams Oshiomhole (Edo North) alleging irregularities in the committee report that recommended the six-month suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (Kogi Central).
Senate spokesperson, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, disclosed this in an interview on Tuesday, June 16, 2026. He assured that the upper chamber would take a “cursory look” at any extraneous, spontaneous, or intentional remarks made by senators on the matter.
Oshiomhole had earlier claimed that the names of at least three senators appeared on the committee report without their knowledge or endorsement. According to him, some lawmakers whose names featured on the document told him they neither signed it nor supported its recommendations.
Responding to the allegation, Adaramodu said the Senate would review Oshiomhole’s statements and make its position known. “No senator has reported that his or her signature was forged during the Natasha matter,” he stated. “It was debated on the floor of the Senate openly at plenary in the full glare of every Nigerian and even the international audience. Nothing to hide.”
The spokesperson stressed that the suspension followed due process, noting that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan ran foul of the Senate’s orders. He dismissed the forgery claims as strange, insisting that no senator had complained of coercion or falsified signatures.
“Senators are independent-minded people. We are mature men and women,” Adaramodu said. “If you have any infraction against anybody, that person can, without any advocate from anywhere, show it. That has never happened in the Senate and it cannot happen.”
The development comes amid heightened tension between the Senate leadership and Oshiomhole over the handling of Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension.
