Senator Ali Ndume has expressed grave concern over the escalating Boko Haram attacks in Borno State, which have resulted in casualties among civilians and security personnel.
According to Ndume, recent attacks on military bases in Northern and Southern Borno claimed the lives of two soldiers. He lamented the persistent violence affecting communities such as Gwoza, Askira-Uba, Chibok, Damboa, Biu, and Hawul, where residents continue to suffer from killings, destruction, and looting.
The senator also highlighted the security challenges hindering the reopening of the Maiduguri-Damboa-Biu Road, a crucial route now deemed unsafe due to insurgent activities. As a result, travelers are forced to take a lengthy detour through Gombe State, extending a normally two-hour journey to nearly 12 hours.
Ndume further reported fresh attacks, including a landmine explosion in Wajirko, Damboa Local Government Area, which injured the Brigade Commander of Operation Hadin Kai and left several soldiers wounded. Additionally, Boko Haram fighters overran military bases in Wulgo village, near the Gamboru Ngala border town, leading to the disbandment of troops in the area.
With insurgent activities persisting, Ndume warns that the security situation in Borno remains dire, posing a significant threat to both military personnel and civilians.
