Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade, operating under Sector 3 of Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS), have neutralized a suspected bandit and recovered an AK-47 rifle in Taraba State.
According to a statement released on Wednesday by the Brigade’s Acting Spokesperson, Captain Oni Olubodunde, the operation took place during a clearance mission in Karim Lamido Local Government Area.
The operation followed a recent strategic visit by the Commander of the 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, to Bandawa community, where he emphasized the need for increased military presence and proactive security measures.
“Acting swiftly on the Commander’s directive, troops on a fighting patrol along the Bandawa–Karim Lamido road encountered armed criminals. In a decisive exchange of fire, one bandit was neutralized, and an AK-47 rifle, along with 39 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, was recovered,” the statement read.
The Brigade reaffirmed its commitment to eliminating criminal elements and restoring lasting peace across Taraba State.
In a related development, a peace meeting was held on May 12, 2025, to address rising tensions between the Kashimbila community in Takum Local Government Area of Taraba and Jato Aka in Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State. The region has witnessed recurring clashes, including attacks on motorists along the Kashimbila–Jato Aka road.
The leadership of the 6 Brigade called on residents to continue providing timely and credible information to support ongoing military and peacekeeping operations across the state.
