Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has commended the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for its renewed dedication to advancing development in the Niger Delta, aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.
Speaking in Owerri on Friday at the unveiling of the Commission’s 25th-anniversary logo and the Niger Delta Sports Festival mascot, Uzodimma praised NDDC for overcoming political challenges and consistently delivering on its mandate over the past 25 years. He described the Commission as a key force in realizing the President’s vision, highlighting its numerous completed projects across the nine Niger Delta states.
The governor also acknowledged NDDC’s role in restoring confidence in the region, enhancing crude oil production, and fostering partnerships with state governments. He called for greater collaboration with local communities to ensure that developmental projects align with the needs of the people.
Uzodimma further applauded the Commission’s initiative in organizing the upcoming Niger Delta Sports Festival, stating that it would help engage local youth and reduce crime.
Earlier, NDDC Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to driving sustainable development in the oil-producing region. He noted that the board and management had been working tirelessly to reshape the narrative of the Niger Delta.
Ogbuku emphasized the importance of stakeholder engagement in fostering harmony and cooperation for the region’s progress. He also expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for his support, particularly in funding. “The President has approved raising N1 trillion from financial institutions in the 2024 budget to complete legacy projects,” he stated.
Speaking on the upcoming sports festival in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Ogbuku described the event as a platform to promote regional integration, unity, and the discovery of young talents. He assured that all necessary measures had been put in place to ensure its success.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on the NDDC, Senator Asuquo Ekpeyong, pledged the Senate’s continued collaboration with the Commission to achieve a developed Niger Delta that reflects the aspirations of its people.
Similarly, the House Committee Chairman on NDDC, Hon. Erhiateka Ibori-Suenu, expressed appreciation to Governor Uzodimma for his unwavering support for the Commission. She also lauded the Light-Up program, which she said has brought joy to communities in line with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.
