Moses Paul, activist and convener of the Free Nigeria Movement, has fired back at Senate President Godswill Akpabio over his recent remarks targeting Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate.
Akpabio, while addressing fellow lawmakers on the Senate floor, had taken a swipe at Obi, saying: “When somebody makes a statement that the labour of our heroes past are in vain, I beg to disagree. Let our brother, Peter Obi, show leadership like Edwin Clark did by resolving first the crisis in the Labour Party.”
In a swift response, Moses Paul condemned Akpabio’s statement, accusing him of political double standards. He argued that the Senate President lacks the moral ground to question Obi’s leadership credentials.
“Enough of the political hypocrisy!” Paul declared. “Akpabio should be the last man to lecture anyone on leadership—especially Peter Obi, a man whose name has become a symbol of hope across Nigeria.”
He went further to accuse Akpabio of benefiting from political betrayals and backdoor deals throughout his career, urging him to reflect on his own record before criticizing others.
Paul also downplayed the internal crisis within the Labour Party, describing it as a distraction sponsored by those threatened by Obi’s influence.
“You can bribe the loudest voices, manipulate the weakest links, and sponsor division, but you cannot bury a movement whose roots are in the hearts of millions,” he said.
Defending Obi’s political relevance, Paul emphasized that the former Anambra governor does not need to chase the spotlight. “If the plan is to sideline him from national discourse, it has failed woefully,” he said.
“We are watching. We are counting. And when the time comes, we will respond not with noise, but with votes—loud and clear,” Paul concluded.
