A prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Joe Igbokwe, has dismissed reports of a political alliance between former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Recent reports suggest that Atiku, who contested the 2023 presidential election under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has reached a deal with Obi, proposing a joint ticket in which Obi would serve as Atiku’s running mate for a single tenure.
Reacting to the development via a post on his official Facebook page on Monday, Igbokwe, a staunch supporter of President Bola Tinubu, criticized the reported alliance, describing it as unserious and desperate.
He wrote: “Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s childish and primitive deal with the Labour Party is laughable and kindergarten. It is an act of desperation. It cannot fly, and it cannot sell.”
The alleged deal, if confirmed, would mark a significant shift in the opposition’s strategy ahead of the 2027 polls.
