Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has defended the Minister’s recent actions regarding the sealing of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Secretariat.
Responding to criticism from Dare Adeleke, the Caretaker Chairman of the PDP in Ekiti State, Olayinka stated that Wike remains focused and undeterred by political noise.
Adeleke had publicly condemned the FCT Administration’s decision to seal the PDP National Secretariat over outstanding ground rent. However, Olayinka pointed out that Adeleke, who allegedly occupies two positions in defiance of the PDP constitution, lacks the moral authority to criticize Wike.
According to Olayinka, “Section 48(1) of the PDP Constitution clearly states that a political appointee cannot simultaneously hold a party position. Yet, Dare Adeleke, a Special Adviser to the Oyo State Governor, is also parading himself as Caretaker Chairman of the PDP in Ekiti – a position he has held illegally since August 2024, far beyond the constitutional limit of three months, renewable only once.”
The FCT Administration had earlier announced the revocation of 4,794 land titles across Abuja due to non-payment of ground rent. Enforcement actions began on Monday, with several properties, including the PDP Secretariat, being sealed.
Following President Bola Tinubu’s intervention, Wike extended a 14-day grace period for defaulters to settle their debts. As of Thursday, 12 days remain before enforcement resumes.
Olayinka, in a Facebook post, criticized Adeleke for making “uninformed and politically motivated” comments, writing:
“Dare Adeleke, the illegal Caretaker Chairman of PDP in Ekiti State, has been making noise like his political godfather. This is someone who was demoted from a major agency head in Oyo State to an adviser without a defined office. If people like him choose not to pay their dues, so be it. Wike is not moved by empty threats or sentiment.”
He reiterated that the FCT Administration is enforcing the law without fear or favoritism:
“Wike no dey look Uche face.”
