A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ayekooto Akindele, has ridiculed former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over alleged difficulties in securing a Southern running mate for the 2027 presidential election.
Akindele claimed that Atiku is “desperately” searching for a suitable vice-presidential candidate from the South, especially in light of reports suggesting that Labour Party’s Peter Obi may decline any offer to be his running mate.
Taking to Facebook, Akindele wrote:
“With the high possibility of Obi’s refusal, Atiku is desperately shopping for a southern running mate. And since he cannot get any South-South governor to accept or fund him, his options are limited to Timi Frank, AdeDancer, Bode George, Debo Ologbondiyan, Rotimi Amaechi, or Tom Ikimi.”
This development comes after Peter Obi clarified his recent involvement in opposition coalition talks. He emphasized that his participation is driven by a commitment to fight bad governance, hunger, and poverty — not a personal political ambition.
Obi’s clarification followed reports suggesting he had reached an agreement with Atiku to serve as his running mate in 2027, with Atiku allegedly committing to a single term in office and offering to formalize the deal in writing.
