Chinedu Nwowu, a lawyer from Mgbidi in Imo State, was reportedly murdered in cold blood yesterday around 7 p.m. in his car at Mgbidi.
Eyewitness accounts suggest that the assailants shot him multiple times to ensure he was dead before fleeing the scene.
The shocking incident has left the legal community in Oru and Mgbidi in fear and disbelief. Mr. Nwowu, who appeared in Omuma High Court earlier that same day, was described by his colleagues as a quiet, amicable gentleman. Many are baffled by the motive behind such a gruesome act.
In response to the tragedy, Chukwuemeka Okoro, the Chairman of the Oru/Oguta Lawyers Association, issued a statement convening an emergency meeting and announcing the suspension of court sittings in the area. The statement reads:
“Following the gruesome murder of one of us, CHINEDU NWOWU, last night in his hometown, Mgbidi, all lawyers of the Oru/Oguta Forum are hereby notified of a crucial emergency meeting this morning by 10 a.m. at the High Court, Mgbidi.
The Mgbidi, Oguta, and Omuma High Courts will not sit today.
Please be punctual.
