OWERRI – The Imo State Commissioner of Police, CP Audu Bosso, on Saturday gave an account of his command’s operational successes, disclosing the arrest of 184 suspects and the rescue of three kidnapped victims in intensified crackdowns on kidnapping, terrorism, armed robbery, and other violent crimes across the state.
Bosso, who assumed duty two months ago, made the disclosure while briefing journalists at the Police Command Headquarters parade ground in Owerri.
“In the past two months, the Command under my stewardship arrested a total of 184 suspects in separate intelligence-led operations for various criminal offences including kidnapping, terrorism, armed robbery, cultism, murder, defilement, rape, sexual assault, vehicle snatching, stealing, and receiving stolen property,” the CP stated.
He added that the operations also resulted in the recovery of a significant cache of arms and ammunition, including two AK-47 rifles, eleven AK-47 magazines, three M16 rifle magazines, five locally fabricated double-barrel and cut-to-size guns, four locally made pistols, and 382 rounds of assorted ammunition.
Other recoveries listed by the commissioner include one blue Toyota Highlander SUV, one ash-coloured Mercedes-Benz GLK Jeep with registration number YAB 831 DQ, three Q-Link motorcycles, a Sumec generator set, eight branded cult caps, a human skull, and assorted criminal charms.
A major highlight of the briefing was the successful dismantling of a notorious kidnapping syndicate operating in the Egbema area. Following the arrest of two key suspects, Confidence Vitalis, 28, from Ukugba, Egbema in Ohaji/Egbema LGA, and Ishiaya Rejoice, 32, from Emuoha in Rivers State, police operatives on July 6, 2026, raided a suspected kidnappers’ and terrorists’ hideout in the Egbema River creek.
The operation was based on credible intelligence gathered from a previous rescue on June 30, 2026, when one of the syndicate’s victims, abducted on June 27, was safely recovered. Confessional statements from the arrested kingpins further guided operatives to the creek hideout.
CP Bosso assured residents of the command’s commitment to sustaining the offensive against crime and urged the public to continue providing timely information to security agencies.
