The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has rejected the notice submitted by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) regarding its proposed 100th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, citing procedural non-compliance.
In a letter dated June 13, 2025, and addressed to PDP’s National Chairman, INEC stated that the notification failed to meet the requirements stipulated in the 2022 Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties.
According to the letter, signed by INEC’s Acting Secretary, Hajiya Hau’ru Aminu, the party violated Part 2(12)3 of the guidelines, which mandates that notices for conventions, congresses, conferences, or meetings must be jointly signed by both the National Chairman and the National Secretary of the party.
“The Commission draws your attention to the fact that the notice is not in compliance… Be guided,” the letter reads in part.
Although the PDP had submitted its notice within the required 21-day period, it was only signed by Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, without the signature of the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu. The NEC meeting was scheduled to hold at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.
