The Lagos State Government has announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Federal Government to commence exploratory work on the 68-kilometer Green Line rail project.
The Green Line will connect Marina to the Lekki Free Trade Zone, passing through key areas such as Victoria Island, Lekki, and Ajah. This rail line is poised to enhance connectivity and boost economic activities along one of Africa’s fastest-growing industrial corridors.
The announcement was made by the Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, during a Citizen/Media Stakeholders Forum organized by the Ministry on Monday. According to a statement shared on the Lagos State Government’s official Facebook page, the agreement was signed with the Federal Government’s Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI).
“The Lagos State Government has said it has signed an MoU with the Federal Government’s Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI) to kickstart exploratory work on the development of the Green Line project,” the statement confirmed.
A Key Component of Lagos’ Transport Master Plan
The Green Line project is part of the Lagos Strategic Transport Master Plan, which envisions a metro rail system with six Light Rail Transit (LRT) lines aimed at easing traffic congestion and improving connectivity across Lagos.
