The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has unveiled its timetable and fee structure for aspirants seeking elective positions ahead of the 2027 general elections, placing the cost of its presidential nomination process at ₦60 million.
In a statement released on Tuesday and jointly signed by the party’s National Chairman, Senator Moses Zwughele, and National Secretary, Barrister Ikenna Enenweizu, the party disclosed that presidential hopefuls would pay ₦20 million for the Expression of Interest Form and ₦40 million for the Nomination Form.
According to the schedule, the sale of Expression of Interest Forms will begin on May 13 and end on May 18, 2026. Screening and interviews for aspirants are expected to hold between May 19 and May 21.
The party explained that only candidates who successfully scale the screening stage would be eligible to purchase Nomination Forms, which will be available from May 21 to May 23. Completed forms are to be submitted no later than May 25.
Appeals arising from the screening exercise will be addressed on May 25 and 26, while party primaries for various elective offices are slated for May 27 and 28. The presidential primary election is scheduled to hold in Abuja on May 29, 2026.
The NDC also released fees for other positions. Aspirants for State Houses of Assembly are to pay ₦2.5 million, House of Representatives candidates ₦6 million, Senate aspirants ₦8 million, and governorship contenders ₦30 million.
The party stated that its fees are comparatively lower than those charged by other major political parties in Nigeria.
To encourage inclusiveness, the NDC announced a 50 percent reduction in fees for female aspirants, while persons living with disabilities will pay only 25 percent of the approved charges.
It further stated that all aspirants must sign an undertaking in line with the party’s code of conduct and guidelines.
Screening for State House of Assembly aspirants will be conducted in their respective states, while National Assembly and presidential aspirants will be screened at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja. Governorship primaries, according to the party, will take place at the local government level.
The NDC added that it would use the open secret ballot system for all primary elections in a bid to strengthen internal democracy and transparency.
Founded under the guidance of Seriake Dickson, the NDC has recently attracted prominent political figures, including Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, who have aligned with the movement ahead of the 2027 elections.
The party held its inaugural national convention on May 9, 2026, at the Los Angeles Event Centre, where it officially zoned its 2027 presidential ticket to Southern Nigeria.
